The Four Foundations of Ghosh Yoga
- Relaxation - The ability to relax and do nothing is a skill that requires practice but is vital to Ghosh Yoga. Balancing every ounce of effort with an ounce of relaxation can surprisingly improve your ability to exert effort and be productive.
- Coherent Breathing - Humans take over 20,000 breaths a day, often without conscious thought. These breaths are commonly short and shallow, leading to a higher heart rate and stress on the nervous system. Slowing down and deepening your breath can profoundly impact your heart rate and nervous system.
- Functional Mobility - Is the ability of a joint to move through its full range of motion with its own strength. This may seem obvious, but we often use the strength of other muscles and joints to compensate for limitations in our bodies. Learning basic functional mobility in the major joints of your spine, shoulders, and hips is essential.
- Balance - Is the body's ability to know where it is in space and adjust to stay upright. This culminates in advanced poses like standing on one leg or balancing on your arms but starts with simpler exercises that build strength and coordination in your feet, legs, hips, and spine. Yoga is one of the few disciplines that cultivate this balance.
